A new documentary centered on Red Hot Chili Peppers is set to arrive on Netflix, bringing the band’s earliest chapter into focus. The film looks back to Los Angeles in the early 1980s, when a group of friends began playing together with no clear plan beyond making music.

The project traces how that loose beginning evolved into one of the most recognizable rock bands of the past four decades. Band members Anthony Kiedis and Flea take part in shaping the story, grounding it in firsthand perspective rather than hindsight mythology. The documentary also revisits the role of original guitarist Hillel Slovak, whose influence on the band’s sound remains central despite his death in 1988.

Directed by Ben Feldman, the film focuses on friendship, loss, and persistence more than chart positions or stadium tours. What this really shows is how the band’s identity was formed long before fame entered the picture. The documentary premieres on March 20, 2026.
