Mariah Carey may finally be getting closer to releasing one of the most unexpected projects in her music catalog.

During a Reddit Q&A on October 30, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of Glitter, the singer addressed a fan’s question about her long-unreleased grunge album, Someone’s Ugly Daughter.

Carey revealed that fans ask about the project almost every week. Her response, “#notyet (this is a hint!),” suggested that the recordings could eventually become available.

The album dates back to 1995, when Carey was recording her successful Daydream album. During that period, she experimented with alternative rock and grunge, exploring a musical direction far removed from her signature pop and R&B sound.

A version of the album was released under the band name Chick, with Clarissa Dane providing the lead vocals. However, the version featuring Carey’s original lead vocals has remained largely unavailable to the public.

Carey has previously expressed interest in releasing the project. Her latest comments have renewed attention around the recordings, although no official release date or distribution plans have been announced.
